Jon Jones speaks out following recent arrest in Las Vegas

Jon Jones has declared that he has given up drinking alcohol following his arrest in Las Vegas last week.

Just hours after being inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame for his first fight against Alexander Gustafsson, Jones was arrested due to an incident that saw him allegedly headbutt a police car and pull his partner’s hair.

The former UFC light heavyweight champion is expected back in court next month, further derailing his proposed move up to heavyweight that many felt would take place in the first quarter of 2022.

“Bones” is widely regarded as one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time but this is the latest in a long line of issues he’s had with regards to run-ins with the law. Now, at what can only be described as a real crossroads in his life, Jones has taken to social media in order to declare that he’s going to use this latest incident as motivation for cleaning up his act once and for all.

Will Jones stick to his word?

“I have way too much trauma to consume alcohol, my brain simply can’t handle it anymore. I will leave alcohol in my past forever. Now is the time to work harder than ever, turn this nightmare into the best thing to ever happen in my life. Get right back on my horse. What the devil means for bad, God means for good.”

In response, UFC president Dana White suggested Jon was “ten years too late” in making such a claim before saying the promotion would wait and see what happens to the 34-year-old from a legal point of view.

As Jon Jones attempts to get clean, the UFC looks set to move forward with plans for a UFC heavyweight title unification showdown between Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane.
