Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson’s future with Liverpool is believed to be uncertain, The Athletic reports.
The 31-year-old central midfielder is widely considered to be one of the most influential players in the Premier League and has been for the majority of his 10-year stay at Anfield. Throughout that time he’s grown and improved as a player and as a man, to the point where he’s helped guide Liverpool to a Premier League and Champions League title across the last few seasons.
However, off the back of his run with England at Euro 2020, it’s become apparent that he’s starting to enter the final two years of his deal on Merseyside.
“The Athletic understands that while talks over an extension have taken place during this off-season period, no real progress has been made.
“Negotiations haven’t broken down and sources stress that dialogue is ongoing but it’s both a complicated and sensitive situation. The reality is that Liverpool’s owner Fenway Sports Group (FSG) currently has bigger priorities to address in the squad.
“And the uncertainty leaves the door open for suitors of the talismanic midfielder, who celebrated a decade of service to the club last month, when he also turned 31, and is currently on holiday following his run with England to the final of Euro 2020.”
The report goes on to state that Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid could be in the running if and when Henderson becomes available. PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino is “a big admirer” of his, whereas Hendo is also still good friends with Luis Suarez over at Atletico with both clubs having a history of signing experienced players.
Reds fans will just be hoping that they can see their main man line up in the starting XI when Liverpool’s new Premier League campaign begins against Norwich on August 14.
