Leaked Karim Benzema FIFA 23 rating shows he’s set for big upgrade

As the hype builds for the upcoming release of FIFA 23, eagle-eyed fans have spotted the potential rating of Karim Benzema in the next game.

The Real Madrid forward had an incredible season in 2021/22. He scored a sublime 44 goals in 46 appearances in all competitions, whilst adding 15 assists too. Benzema was also the Champions League’s top goalscorer last term as Real Madrid took home their fourteenth European Cup.

In addition, Los Blancos cruised to the La Liga title, giving them 35 Spanish championships overall. Benzema was the talisman of Madrid’s success last season, popping up with key goals in decisive moments on many occasions. As a result, the Frenchman is the runaway favourite for this year’s coveted Ballon d’Or. If France have a successful World Cup with Benzema leading the line, you can almost guarantee the award.

All this on-pitch success translates into further respect off the field. So, in recognition of his incredible 2021/22, it seems that EA has given Karim Benzema a healthy rating upgrade in the FIFA 23 video game.

Karim Benzema FIFA 23 rating “leaked”

Ahead of the launch later this year, makers EA Sports have released numerous videos and blog posts about gameplay updates and information. Surprisingly, it was one of their own videos that showed off the Real Madrid captain’s new rating.

In the “Official gameplay deep dive” YouTube video, EA had a clip of Benzema taking a penalty to show off the new spot-kick technique. Hovering next to his name in the clip is the rating of 91. You can see it for yourself in the picture below:

Although the game’s makers have not yet released any ratings, this seems like a pretty certain revealing of Benzema’s rank. Of course, any rating put out before official word from the producers could be subject to change.

If this is the case, he is set for a +2-rating increase over FIFA 22. Last year, the Madrid forward was *only* an 89-rated gold card. However, his numerous special cards meant that by Team of the Season, Benzema was a thoroughly deserved 98 rating.

But have any other ratings leaked out accidentally?

Other early ratings

Benzema’s Real teammate, Toni Kroos, also had an accidental rating reveal in the deep dive video. Like last year’s game, the German midfielder stays at an 88.

Additionally, the eleven-minute analysis of the new game gave Chelsea fans the chance to learn their team’s rankings. A full starting eleven of the squad and their ratings were in the video, revealing numerous upgrades and downgrades (via Football London).

Both Edouard Mendy and Reece James received a +3 boost, rising to 86 and 84 overall, respectively. Veteran defender Thiago Silva also enjoyed a slight increase in rating, going up to an 86.

Contrastingly, several players received a -1 on their rating. This included German duo Kai Havertz and Timo Werner (both 83), N’Golo Kante (89), and Cesar Azpilicueta (82). Meanwhile, stars such as Jorginho, Mason Mount, and Christian Pulisic kept the same rating as FIFA 22.

Away from London, cover star Kylian Mbappe has apparently had a rating change, too. According to Get Football News France, the PSG forward will be a 92 – becoming the highest-rated player in the game.

With exciting new features and revamped “Hypermotion” system, FIFA 23 looks set to be EA’s most advanced football game yet. Whether fans who flock to buy the game agree with the updated ratings remains to be seen.
