Khabib Nurmagomedov releases statement following retirement confirmation

Khabib Nurmagomedov has taken to social media to say his thank yous following the news that his retirement is indeed permanent.

Dana White broke the news earlier today, putting to bed an ongoing debate over whether or not ‘The Eagle’ could be tempted back to the octagon.

Khabib announced he would be hanging up his gloves after UFC 254 last year, where he defeated Justin Gaethje to take his record to a staggering 29-0.

We now know his record will remain at that, leaving behind a legacy of the one of the most dominant UFC fighters of all time.

Going out on top

Khabib took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message to his fans and team, thanking them for their support down the years.

“It was a good dinner with some great people. @danawhite thank you so much brother and the entire @ufc team for the opportunity to prove myself, you guys have changed many live forever because of this sport.” He wrote.

“Dana – I’ll never forget your attitude towards me, my father did not forget and my sons will remember you. Today there was a real conversation between real men.

“Also thank you to all team, sparing partners and all fans. I hope you will accept my decision and understand me.”

A new lightweight champion to be crowned

News of Nurmagomedov’s permanent retirement has offered some clarity when it comes to the lightweight title.

Michael Chandler will fight Charles Oliveira for the now-vacant lightweight belt at UFC 262.
