Konnan hits out at Impact Wrestling star over ‘stupid’ Chris Benoit tweets

Konnan has given his thoughts on Jordynne Grace’s controversial tweets regarding the late wrestler Chris Benoit.

Grace drew criticism last week after making a comment about Chris Benoit and his suffering from CTE. “I don’t think Benoit could 100% hang with most of the present-day best wrestlers,” tweeted the Knockouts World champion. “He would not be able to remember matches.”

She also wished the late wrestler would “burn in hell”.

After this, the Impact star doubled down on the first of her now-deleted tweets. She said that Benoit “should never be defended” after fans flooded her tweets with responses in criticism.

At the time, fellow competitors from Benoit’s stint in the WWE stayed quiet on the controversial outburst from Grace. However, in the past few days, this stance has changed.

On Friday, Chavo Guerrero, a close colleague of Benoit, tweeted about Grace’s standing in the wrestling world. “I think Jordynne Grace just lost a lot of wrestling credibility from some of her comments,” he tweeted (via NoDQ.com).

Now, Benoit’s WCW counterpart Konnan has come to the defence of the late star.

WCW icon slams Jordynne Grace

A legend of the World Championship Wrestling scene, die-hard fans will have fond memories of Konnan, real name Charles Ashenoff, from the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Whilst plying his trade there and across the border in Mexico, Konnan grew popular thanks to his unique flair on the mic. He wowed fans with his rapping ability, as well as bringing street cred to the New World Order faction.

Ashenoff also made a name for himself in TNA wrestling, where he was part of the trio ‘3 Live Kru.

Additionally, he tasted in-ring success, holding numerous championships throughout his career. Konnan was a two-time WCW Tag Team champion and held the WCW United States Championship belt too.

Following on from his in-ring career, Ashenoff currently serves as a promoter and manager in Major League Wrestling.

On the Keepin’ It 100 podcast, Konnan sounded off on Grace over her comments about Chris Benoit.

The former WCW star expressed his disbelief at Grace’s thoughts.

“I can’t believe that she would publicly come out and make an a** of herself like that,” started Konnan, quotes via Wrestling News. “But that ain’t the first time she’s had stupid takes. And, you know, with age comes wisdom. You’ll get here soon enough.”

Konnan defends the wrestling ability of Chris Benoit

Then, he corrected the Impact Wrestling star over her dismissal of Benoit’s abilities.

“Obviously, you don’t know what the f**k you’re talking about,” Konnan fumed. “Benoit, without a doubt, out of all the years and dressing rooms and people that I’ve worked with, is one of the greatest performers I’ve ever seen. His passion is second to none. The intensity was second to none. His preparation was second to none.

“What do you mean he couldn’t hang with nobody today? Bro, 90% of the guys today could not hang with him. That’s the bottom line because I worked with them. And what do you mean that he would have forgotten everything? Listen, if he was at a point where he was forgetting, nobody would let him put together matches.”

Continuing his defence of his competitor, Konnan praised the way in which Chris Benoit could take hold of a wrestling match.

“Benoit had the ability to control the match and say, ‘Hey, we don’t need this, take this out’. Because he was wrestling with Rey Mysterio, who was a wild f*****g guy that he had to edit down. And he’d say, ‘Hey, do this, Juventud do this, Psychosis do this.’ So I mean, I don’t know what the f**k you [Jordynne Grace] are talking about.

“That’s f*****g ignorant.”

On the rest of the comments

Finally, Konnan expressed his views on Grace’s mention of Benoit being a murderer.

“Okay, yeah, he killed his family. Yeah, the guy had CTE,” he said. “It ain’t like he was a serial killer.

“The guy had all these problems accumulated from years like we’re seeing now in wrestling, like we’re seeing in football. Just like we saw with this one guy, the wide receiver [Demaryius Thomas] that just passed away.

“It [CTE] is a serious thing. For you to make light of it and make a stupid idiotic remark like that just shows what an idiot you are.”
