Lionel Messi signing gives PSG the highest wage bill of any sports team in the world

The signing of Lionel Messi has given Paris Saint-Germain quite the distinction – the highest wage bill of any sports team on the planet.

The summer transfer window tends to throw up a surprise or two every single year and this time around, it’s provided fans and media members alike with one hell of a story; the story of Paris Saint-Germain.

Everyone already knew they were one of the richest teams in the game and that they were also one of the best. Now, though, with the addition of Gianluigi Donnarumma, Sergio Ramos and of course Lionel Messi, they’ve put together a squad that even the most ambitious FUT player could only dream of.

Money, money, money

As it turns out, a recent report has indicated that the club has also created the perfect storm with regards to their wage bill.

PSG’s overall squad wages now clock in at £256 million – an astronomically large figure that dwarfs the second best Real Madrid at £212 million. Manchester United aren’t much further behind with £202 million, as the top five finishes off with Barcelona (£195 million) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (£193 million).

The fact that four of the “franchises” in the top five are from football, as well as seven of the top ten with the Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys taking up the other two spots, just goes to prove that the beautiful game is still very much the biggest sport out there.

Lionel Messi isn’t guaranteed to be a success story in the French capital but financially, we’d say he’s doing pretty well for himself.
