Liverpool fans react hilariously to Origi’s scorpion kick goal

He may not be a frequent starter but Divock Origi proved last night why he’ll forever be known as a cult hero at Liverpool Football Club.

The 26-year-old has spent the last seven years of his career on Merseyside and while he hasn’t always been at the races in front of goal, he certainly makes the most of his time in the spotlight whenever he does find the back of the net.

On Wednesday night, with Liverpool holding a slender 1-0 lead over Championship side Preston North End, Divock Origi popped up with one of the wackiest finishes of the season so far with what can only be described as an inverted scorpion kick to put Jurgen Klopp’s men 2-0 up.

It proved to be the goal that sealed the win and Liverpool’s passage into the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup, a competition they haven’t actually won for almost a decade.

When tasked with summing up the moment on social media, Liverpool fans couldn’t help but marvel at the brilliance of their Belgian sensation.

Why do the Reds love Origi so much?

After struggling with injuries and being unable to lock down a consistent place in the first team, Divock Origi burst into life during the 2018/19 campaign. He scored late winners against Everton and Newcastle to keep his side in the title hunt but the real highlights, of course, came in the Champions League.

Origi scored twice in the second leg of Liverpool’s semi-final battle with Barcelona and then, with the world watching, fired home the goal that captured the Reds’ sixth European Cup triumph in the final against Tottenham.

It seems cliche, but there really is only one Divock Origi.
