Luis Suarez chooses between Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland

Luis Suarez has become the latest name to weigh in on the debate over whether Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland will be the next king of world football.

The Uruguayan forward, who himself passed 500 career goals on Sunday, was asked by Marca which of the pair he would choose.

And Suarez called Haaland a player that “will define an era” – with Mbappe close behind.

Speaking to journalist Gerard Romero on Twitch (via Marca English), the 34-year-old explained: “He [Haaland] is a great player, he has an admirable physical strength.

“He’s one of the best number nines in the world and will define an era.

“I’m a bit more in favour of Haaland, but Mbappe is at a great level.”

Haaland’s career in numbers

Haaland has certainly made a major impact on the world of football in such a short period of time.

He played for Bryne and Molde in Norway before moving to Red Bull Salzburg in 2018.

Since then, his goalscoring exploits have simply exploded. He scored at over a goal a game during his first full season in the Austrian Bundesliga.

The Norwegian also scored nine goals in a game at the Under-20 World Cup. Despite not scoring again in the tournament, he still won the Golden Boot.

At Borussia Dortmund, he has become the quickest player ever to reach 20 Champions League goals. He has 21 goals in 21 Bundesliga appearances this season, reaching 100 senior career goals at the age of just 20 in the process.

Unsurprisingly, all the great powers of European football are taking a keen interest.

Mbappe, meanwhile, has a World Cup to his name and continues to amaze football fans around the world with his dominating performances.

The 22-year-old has established himself as one of the most valuable players in the game, and it will no doubt take an eye-watering sum of money for him to leave current club Paris Saint Germain.

Last weekend, he became the youngest player to score 100 goals in Ligue 1.

Everyone will be keeping an eye out on the heights that the pair can reach in world football over their careers.
