Man United fans allegedly filmed burning Cristiano Ronaldo kit

News of Cristiano Ronaldo‘s potential move to Manchester City has disappointed fans of his former club Manchester United.

Ronaldo signed for United back in 2003 as an 18-year-old, and went on to establish himself as one of the finest players in world football.

The club’s manager at the time, Sir Alex Ferguson, called him “one of the most exciting young players I’ve ever seen”.

Ronaldo went on to win nine trophies with United, including three Premier League titles and the 2008 Champions League.

In the latter, he scored the opening goal in the final against Chelsea.

Later that year, he secured the European Golden Shoe, Ballon d’Or, FIFPro World Player of the Year and FIFA World Player of the Year awards.

He also won the Premier League Player of the Season in two consecutive years, and won the Golden Boot in 2007/08.

The Portuguese forward left United in the summer of 2009 to join Real Madrid, where his goalscoring exploits reached new levels.

Speaking in 2014 about a possible return to the club, he said: “Some players I am still in contact with because when I was there I created a good relationship with everybody, not just the players, all the staff around.

“And it was my second family there too, so I’ll not forget that the people treat me well. I’ll not forget.

“I love Manchester, to be back, I never know, you never know.”

Ronaldo’s potential move to City

Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Ronaldo’s agent was in contact with United over a fairytale return – but that he is now in “direct contact” with City to discuss wages.

Some United fans seem to taking that news worse than others.

One fan on Twitter has seemingly been filmed burning a new United shirt, with Ronaldo’s name on the back.

Unsurprisingly, repliers in the comments section were not too impressed with what they were seeing.
