Man United fans make feelings clear on their preferred captain in new survey

Manchester United fans have made their feelings clear on who they want to see as their captain next season, according to a new survey.

Current incumbent Harry Maguire has been in poor form all season. The £80 million centre-back found himself dropped for the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal on April 23.

It is perhaps baffling why the England international has performed so poorly this season. The 29-year-old came into the season having had an impressive tournament at last year’s European Championships. He was also a vital component of the United side last season.

Bruno Fernandes took the Red Devils’ armband at the Emirates Stadium. Yet this was to no avail as the Portuguese international had a poor game and missed a penalty.

The appointment of Erik ten Hag will surely bring back some stability back to Old Trafford.

It appears likely that the Dutchman will name a new captain. New signings will also be a priority as ten Hag looks to rebuild the side with a clear and defined style of pressing football in mind.

Man United fans want Cristiano Ronaldo to be captain for next season

In a survey of 2,000 Man United supporters conducted by BritishGambler.co.uk, it was revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo is the preferred choice as captain for next season.

Overall, 52% of respondents said that they wanted Ronaldo as captain. Fernandes was in a distant second place with 15% of the votes. Maguire was third as 13% said he should keep the captaincy role.

Whether the five-time Ballon d’Or winner would want to stay without Champions League football is uncertain. After the defeat to Arsenal, United will surely have to settle for the Europa League, at best, next season.

David de Gea would make a good captain, according to 10% of those questioned. Meanwhile, a further 6% voted for Scott McTominay to be given a go as the skipper.

Who do United fans want their club to sign this summer?

As for summer transfer targets, Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger is the most wanted. A total of 34% in the survey thought he would be the best buy for United.

The German international would represent good value, as he is available on a free transfer this summer. However, he looks likely to join Real Madrid. Fabrizio Romano reports the Spanish giants have reached a verbal agreement with the German.

Kalvin Phillips is the next most desired as 21% said the Leeds midfielder should be the priority transfer. It is thought that United are looking for two new central midfielders this summer.

Harry Kane is next on the list, with 17% believing he should be the key signing. Next came Jude Bellingham on 12%, with Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans receiving 10% of the vote.

Yet there was a split decision on Paul Pogba. 52% said the club should resign him, while 48% said he can leave the club.
