Manchester United closing in on Moises Caicedo

According to a new report, Manchester United is circling around Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo like a hungry shark.

Of all the transfers the club have missed out on in recent years, perhaps none frustrate the fans more than their failure to pick up the 21-year-old playmaker.

In 2020, Caicedo was on the market for just £4.5 million, before Brighton dived in first and convinced him to put pen to paper.

He’s since fully established himself as a top-level star, capable of offering his services at the pinnacle of the sport. And consequently, Erik ten Hag is hoping to do what the Manchester side hasn’t in the past and bring him to Old Trafford.

Renowned for his lightning pace, silky skills and tremendous tackling ability, there’s no doubt that he’d make a significant impact at The Theatre of Dreams.

Alongside Casemiro, he’d be part of possibly the greatest midfield combination in the league. And according to The Telegraph, that reality isn’t too far off coming to fruition.

The news outlet claims that Caicedo and his teammate Alexis Mac Allister are on United’s summer shortlist.

The youngster would cost the Premier League greats £70 million, which they may view as a worthwhile purchase. While some may label him as a potential ‘flash in the pan’, the fact that he scored at the World Cup suggests he has the mindset to craft a very successful career for himself.

However, what happens with the takeover will influence the club’s budget in the transfer window. Bidders are currently waiting to get an update from The Raine Group, who is conducting the sale process.
