McGregor calls out Usman for stealing his one-liners

Conor McGregor has called out Kamaru Usman for stealing a few of his famous one-liners.

Usman is set to meet Jorge Masvidal for the second time at UFC 261 later this month. On that night he’ll be defending the UFC welterweight title, with many believing a win would make him the pound-for-pound best male fighter in the promotion.

On the other side of the coin we have McGregor who will square off against Dustin Poirier for the third time this summer to complete their trilogy.

“Everything I say”

Usman recently acknowledged the star power of his upcoming opponent Masvidal, but also made it clear that he firmly believes part of the appeal from their first fight came from him.

“So yeah, does he bring a little bit more eyes? Absolutely. I don’t take that away from him. I’m proud of everything he has done, absolutely proud of him. Respect in that aspect but let’s be honest, I have what everyone wants. It’s green panty night when you fight me. He’s not getting the pay-per-views and stuff like that on his own. He has to fight me.”

Given that he’s clearly stealing McGregor’s “red panty night” line, it was always bound to upset the Irishman.

The first fight between Usman and Masvidal sold 1.3 million PPV buys which, all things considered, is an impressive figure. This time around, giving Usman’s increasing popularity, that figure could be even higher.

McGregor once teased the idea of going back up to welterweight to take on Usman for the 170-pound strap. Right now, though, lightweight is his priority, in what many would consider a make-or-break fight for him.
