Memphis Depay lashes out when asked if he regrets Barcelona move

Memphis Depay lashed out at a reporter when asked whether or not he regrets moving to Barcelona during the summer.

After a great deal of speculation it was finally confirmed in mid-June that the 27-year-old would be heading to the Nou Camp after a strong four-year spell with Lyon. While there was an element of excitement in the air for both his arrival and Sergio Aguero’s, the state of the club looked pretty different by the time the window had ended with Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann both departing for pastures new.

Now, with Barca lingering around mid-table in La Liga as Ronald Koeman waits to hear about his future, some have wondered if Depay made the right decision to help him move forward in his career.

When confronted with that query in a recent ESPN interview, Depay didn’t appear to be all too pleased by the line of questioning.

“How could you ask that?” Memphis said.

The Barca collapse continues

“It’s Barcelona. I don’t think you understand how big this club is and what it means for a player if you move to a club like this. I would never regret it.”

“Despite results, I’m really happy at the club,” he added. “It’s been a difficult time [for the team]. I don’t want to talk about that much, but people are acting like the season is already over.

“There are so many games to play. Everything is still open. But as a player you feel responsible and you take responsibility. You care. Every player takes responsibility at Barca. That’s normal for a club like Barcelona.”

Memphis will hope to carry that mentality forward into Barcelona’s next game after the international break when they face Valencia on October 17.
