Mikel Arteta dismisses the idea of joining Barcelona

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has dismissed the idea of him leaving the club to join Spanish giants Barcelona.

As a result of Ronald Koeman’s departure, there’s currently a vacant managerial spot at the Nou Camp that needs to be filled. All reports and rumours seem to point towards Xavi being the man to take over but as we all know, it’s not over until it’s over in this sport.

Arteta spent five years in the youth setup at Barca before leaving to begin his British adventure which saw him play for Rangers, Everton and Arsenal before taking up the role of assistant manager with Manchester City. Now, he’s the main man for the Gunners, and he isn’t interested in heading back to Spain at the present moment.

“I just hope that everything works out well [for Barcelona]. I’m extremely happy at Arsenal, I feel privileged to be here, and my only focus is here.”

The next step for Arteta

This season didn’t exactly start off that great with Arsenal suffering three straight defeats in the Premier League but ever since then, they’ve gone on eight-game unbeaten streak that has helped vault them back into top six contention.

Nobody expects all too much from Arsenal these days but Mikel Arteta clearly has a plan in place to get them back to the summit. It’ll take a while to get there, but the 39-year-old is committed to the cause.
