Montage of Roy Keane breaking up play is an incredibly satisfying watch

The conversation of greatest ever captains can be a controversial one, though one name remains an ever-present in just about anybody’s list.

Roy Keane; a truly terrifying b*stard, whether it be on the pitch or in the punditry box. In fact, the term enforcer was almost definitely invented for him.

Keane’s no-nonsense approach to the game, combined with an often under-appreciated ability on the ball and a stellar trophy cabinet, means it’s no surprise he tops most lists in that conversation.

His knack for bringing opposing attacks to a screeching halt in crunching and often controversial fashion was vital to one of Manchester United’s most successful eras.

The UEFA Champions League Twitter account has celebrated that, sharing a montage of the joint-most successful Irishman of all time, stopping some of the game’s greatest in their tracks.

Watching the clip makes it all the more disappointing that his time with United ended on a relatively sour note, including a very public falling out with Sir Alex Ferguson.

Still though, you’d struggle to find any United fan who doesn’t speak about Keane with anything but respect and admiration for what he did on the pitch.
