Nathaniel Wood says Alexander Volkanovski has one weakness he can exploit

Nathaniel Wood says Alexander Volkanovski is past his prime

In his career, Nathaniel Wood has proven his mental resilience beyond doubt, with the Brit showcasing a willingness to take on absolutely anybody. In his last outing, he overcame the odds to defeat Losene Keita, who’d arrived in the UFC from Oktagon with a massive reputation.

Now, he’s taking on another dangerous contender. And should he emerge victorious, then Wood, who is already ranked eighth in the featherweight division, will move one step closer to securing a shot at Alexander Volkanovski for the 145lbs world championship.

Of course, the Englishman rates the legend extremely highly. However, he has a feeling that the timing of the potential showdown would give him the advantage.

In an exclusive interview with Sporf, he claimed: “I believe that I can win in any way. I also believe that I can lose in any way. It’s Alexander Volkanovski, in my opinion, he’s the best featherweight ever, he’s an absolute stud. Obviously, he’s getting on now, he’s not as young as he once was, so I would try and take advantage of that. My plan would be to go in there and be the best Nathaniel Wood I could be.”

While Wood’s opponent has generated a large amount of interest thanks to his previous performances inside the cage, he’s yet to face someone of the veteran’s calibre. And the Londoner intends to use that to his advantage.

Wood exclaimed: “He’s undefeated, 8-0. He’s smashed everyone he’s been up against, but that’s not the competition level of the UFC. What I do with every fighter is that I overestimate them; I tell myself that this guy is the number one in the world and who I have to beat to get a shot at the title. I’m never going to underestimate an opponent. At the end of the day, we’ve got four-ounce gloves on, anything can happen. He looks like a very talented young man, and I’ve not even seen him get into any real trouble in fights. He has a lot of hype behind him, so it’ll be interesting to see how he deals with some pressure.”
