A new chart has shown just how much money clubs from the Premier League have spent during the summer transfer window.
While there’s always a certain degree of excitement in the air when the market opens back up in January, the main transfer business every year tends to take place across the summer. From “out there” signings to big-name stars finally making their move after months of speculation, the window is never short of drama and that’s what many football fans tend to look for.
Money, money, money
It’s always been well documented that the English Premier League is a source of heavy spending with the big clubs, such as Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United, regularly putting their money where their mouth is in the name of improving their squad.
Alas, even the most outlandish of fans couldn’t have imagined that the English contingent would have spent over €1 billion already (as per Transfermarkt).
There are still a few weeks left to go but there’s no way, in our view, that Serie A and Bundesliga are even going to come close to usurping the EPL.
Ligue 1 likely would’ve been situated further up the table if there hadn’t been so many free transfer success stories for Paris Saint-Germain but in a general sense, this tells us all we need to know about the direction of travel in football – and it seems as if the COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t had as big of an impact as many anticipated after all.
