Neymar has been on the receiving end of criticism from the President of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula de Silva.
The legend, who has scored 79 goals for his country, and has just recovered from a calf injury, only joined his teammates for training at the World Cup this week.
Neymar mocked by Brazilian President
While Neymar didn’t feature in Brazil’s opening World Cup match against Morocco, he’s still hoping to make an impact at the tournament, even if he’s not quite made it into Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for the second game against Haiti.
As per France 24, when a young boy mentioned the icon’s name, Luiz Inacio Lula de Silva, who was speaking during a ceremony at a hospital in the south-east city of Belo Horizonte replied: “Neymar? He is not even playing. Neymar is the first player to be called up [to the national team] who is working remotely.”
Unfortunately, the superstar hasn’t had the greatest of campaigns. He’s only featured in half of Santos’ games this year due to various fitness issues. Unsurprisingly, this has resulted in Ancelotti being very hesitant in risking him at this stage of the competition, hoping that the gifted player could make a splash later in the tournament.
