Jordan Pickford has received criticism for DR Congo scoring against England at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The crowd at Atlanta Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, couldn’t believe their eyes as the underdogs took the lead during the Round of 32 fixture.
Jordan Pickford slated by fans after DR Congo go 1-0 up against England
England entered the match this evening against DR Congo as monumental favourites. However, it didn’t take long for their rivals to remind them that they certainly hadn’t merely turned up to take part.
Captitalising on a wide-open defense, the African nation delivered a cross from the right that flew over the head of Djed Spence, arriving at the feet of Brian Cipenga, who was left all on his own. The Congolese star took a touch before firing the ball home with fearsome precision, beating Jordan Pickford at his near post, to put DR Congo into the ascendancy.
Fans were fuming at the situation with many taking to social media to slam the goalkeeper.
One posted: “That’s an absolute shocker. Terrible defending and really poor goalkeeping from Jordan Pickford. Now DR Congo can really sit in and try and protect what they have. Big test of England’s character now.”
A second said: “I’m not sure how Jordan Pickford doesn’t save that,” while a third added: “Awful from Djed Spence and Jordan Pickford, absolutely awful defending again.”
A fourth posted: “Jordan Pickford. That’s shameful allowing that in at the near post.”
