Top heavyweight contender Oleksandr Usyk has sent out a clear “I’m coming for you” warning to his next opponent Anthony Joshua.
Whilst many of us are pretty disappointed that we won’t get to see Joshua take on Tyson Fury in his next fight, there’s an argument to be made that this is the next best thing. Oleksandr Usyk is known for being an Olympic gold medallist and, in addition to that, one of the most dangerous cruiserweights of his generation – a claim Tony Bellew can back up.
Can Joshua overcome Usyk?
As a 17-0 boxer with a win over Derek Chisora to his name, Usyk is ready for a big step up in competition.
Now, as a direct result of Joshua vs Fury falling apart, he’ll get his wish as he prepares to lock horns with Joshua later this year.
AJ himself won’t need reminding that he’s in for one hell of a tough challenge against the unbeaten Ukrainian, but in case he needs any extra motivation, Usyk has sent a short and simple message to the Brit over Instagram.
“I’m coming for you #usyk #usyk17 #camp #usykjoshua #usyksportswear”.
Joshua has a pretty good poker face but we can’t imagine he’s going to be foolish enough to take Oleksandr Usyk lightly.
After all, he’s already got a pro defeat on his record after showing some real complacency against Andy Ruiz Jr in his American debut a few years ago.
He’s grown and matured an awful lot since that night which is why we expect him to really come firing out of the blocks against a man in Usyk who, to be candid, hasn’t quite shown the same spark at heavyweight that he possessed at cruiserweight.
Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk is currently scheduled to take place on September 25 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
