After finishing his Formula E season with a bang in London, a confident Oliver Rowland has confirmed he’s ready to make a run at the biggest prize in the sport.
On a day he’ll never forget, the Nissan star emerged victorious on home turf, joyfully lifting the trophy above his head as he celebrated with his daughter in front of thousands of adoring fans.
Oliver Rowland wants to become a Formula E world champion
Throughout his remarkable career, the driver has showcased fighting spirit in abundance. When things went wrong at Mahindra last season, rather than letting the situation derail him, he battled back from the brink, rejoining Nissan at the start of this year’s campaign, where he’s produced a series of tremendous performances.
During the 2023-24 season, Rowland exhibited remarkable skill at the wheel, winning in Misano and proving he has what it takes to mix it at the pinnacle of the sport.
In London, the 31-year-old produced a mesmeric showing, surging into the lead and over the finish line, creating his own little piece of magic on a day that meant even more for Pascal Wehrlein, who overcame Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy to clinch the championship.
Rowland revelled in the moment, taking in the roars of the crowd as he lifted the trophy into the air. But like any athlete of his calibre, he’s on the hunt for more, revealing that he wants to write his own piece of history, by becoming Formula E world champion himself.
In an exclusive interview with Sporf, he said: “That has to be the target. We’ve put a solid foundation down now. So, we need to go away and work hard, because we’re competing against the big manufacturers. They’ve been here a long time, and they have a lot of experience, so we need to go away and work super hard and come back next year and hope we have a good chance.”
Oliver Rowland celebrated with his daughter
While claiming your spot at the top of the podium is fantastic in its own right, it was even sweeter for Rowland, who was joined by his daughter.
The pair stood together, receiving thunderous applause from the thrilled spectators at the Excel, in a moment that the sportsman says he’ll hold close to his heart forever.

He beamed: “It was an incredible day. My whole family was here. I never imagined I’d be up there. There’s something about that that’s special. I thought about her on the in-lap, and I’m emotional. I’m just glad that I have that memory that I can show her when she’s older. I can say, ‘We did this together’. She was actually very well-behaved, for once.”
Now, all he has to do, is bring her up on stage when he achieves his lifelong dream of becoming a Formula E world champion.
