Jørgen Strand Larsen slammed for missed penalty during Norway vs France

Tonight’s match served as an all-important decider for which country would top Group I.

However, it didn’t take long for one team to take the edge, with France scoring twice within 20 minutes. But in a testament to their fighting hearts, the Norwegians fought back, reducing the deficit to just one.

Sadly for the underdogs, they couldn’t maintain this position, as Ousmane Dembele bagged the last goal of his hat-trick shortly after.

Early in the second half, Norway had an opportunity to remind the French that the game wasn’t over yet, when they earned a penalty.

WOW: Why isn’t Erling Haaland playing for Norway against France at the FIFA World Cup 2026?

Jørgen Strand Larsen stepped up to the spot with the pressure of the world on his shoulder. Alas, the Norwegian couldn’t deliver, firing his shot with minimal power, making for an easy save for Mike Maignan.

Unimpressed with the effort, fans were quick to head to social media to voice their opinions.

An enraged user wrote: “Strand Larsen with one of the worst penalties ever taken,” while another added: “Oh dear, oh dear! It’s an awful effort from Strand Larsen, who stutters, then hits a tame, lazy right-foot effort that Maignan saves low to his left.”

A third wrote: “Strand Larsen, what was that penalty? What is that laziness about? Hit the pen, man. One of the worst penalties out there.”

A fourth posted: “Strand Larsen looked like he didn’t even want to strike a ball there. Pathetic.”
