Paddy Pimblett says “head won’t fall off” when money comes in

UFC lightweight Paddy Pimblett doesn’t believe money and fame will change him as his rise to prominence in the promotion continues.

After spending years making a name for himself in Cage Warriors, Paddy Pimblett finally made his way over to the UFC a few weeks back in a startling debut performance in Las Vegas. The proud Liverpudlian was expected to make an impact based on his overwhelming popularity back in the UK, but few could’ve anticipated just how chaotic his bout with Luigi Vendramini was going to be.

Pimblett showed his mettle by absorbing a monstrous shot from the Brazilian before subsequently knocking Vendramini out with a sensational combination of strikes.

The humble “Baddy”?

He said he’d go out there and win in the first round and that’s exactly what “The Baddy” did, but when talking to MOTDx, Pimblett made it clear that he isn’t going to get too big for his boots.

“Everything got timed perfectly,” he said. “If I’d have signed years ago, it would have ended in tears.

“I know my head won’t fall off when I get a bit of dough and I get a bit of fame. I did that when I won that first world title at 21 and started thinking I was the boy.”

“I can’t help it,” Pimblett admitted when talking about his tendency to keep his chin too high. “Even in the gym my coaches are always telling me to keep my chin down, but I just get into scraps.

“I enjoy punching people in the face and getting punched in the face – and I know people like to watch that as a show. I’ll continue to do what I do.”

Many expect to see Pimblett return to the octagon before the end of 2021 as his quest to reach the top of the UFC’s lightweight division goes on.
