Papiss Cisse reveals the question Didier Drogba asked him after his outrageous goal against Chelsea for Newcastle

EXCLUSIVE: Didier Drogba only had one thing on his mind when Papiss Cisse scored one of the greatest goals in Premier League history.

On May 2, 2012, the Newcastle legend left Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge in a state of complete and utter disbelief when he nailed the ball from 37 yards out with outrageous power to send it spiralling past a helpless Petr Cech.

Didier Drogba asked Papiss Cisse ‘Where did you come from’?

Prior to his time in the Premier League, Papiss Cisse loved watching Didier Drogba, which is why his epic finish against Chelsea meant the world to him.

Of course, it comes as no major surprise that the Ivory Coast legend was just as impressed with the goal as the rest of the world was, and thus, in the aftermath of the match, which ‘The Magpies’ won 2-0, made the decision to walk over to the natural-born goal scorer and ask him one thing.

WOW: Gareth Barry says he proved the doubters wrong by getting the better of a football icon

In an exclusive interview with Sporf, Cisse reminisced: “He just asked me the question, ‘Where did you come from’? Didier Drogba is one of the big legends I respect. My heroes are Drogba and Samuel Eto’o. To score this kind of goal in front of him, made me so happy. I wanted to show him respect by scoring this kind of goal. I know his agent; he is my uncle. To respect him, I had to score a nice goal like this. It was a big moment for me to play against him and win the game. He is one of the best strikers I have ever seen in my life—him and Samuel Eto’o.”

Papiss Cisse faced adversity when he first arrived in France

Now, Cisse has carved out an exceptional legacy, with fans around the globe fully aware of exactly what he’s capable of. Even today, he can run defences ragged, as he showed at the Baller League UK Season three final at the O2 Arena, where he put several shots past the goalkeeper during the Legends vs Creators match.

However, before he ever showcased his talents in the UK, the gifted sportsman played for Metz in France. But with the weather conditions so different from his homeland, he had to dig deep to push through the freezing temperatures.

Cisse explained: “It was -12°C. I came from Senegal, where it was 36°C. In France, it was snowing and so cold—I wanted to go back home directly. I said, ‘I want to go back home’. They said, ‘You have signed your contract, you have to deal with it’. A lot of the Senegalese, when they arrive, it is a little bit hard for them, because the temperature is totally different, but after that, I dealt with it.”
