Clinton Morrison beat Sami Hyypia in the air

In his esteemed career, Clinton Morrison had many a fantastic moment, but perhaps none were sweeter than the time he leapt higher than Sami Hyypia.

In an exclusive interview with Sporf, via Free Bets, he reminisced: “That was brilliant. We were 2-0 down at Anfield, and I’d not long just gone to Birmingham. It was a big move to go to the Premier League.

“I just remember Stern John crossing the ball, and I made it 2-1, and in the last kick of the game, Stan Lazaridis, who had a great left foot, whipped a ball into the box.

“I got in front of Sami Hyypia. He was one of the best defenders and fantastic in the air, but because the ball was whipped in with so much pace, the timing of my run was perfect. I just put it past Jerzy Dudek and into that far corner.

“It was surreal scenes. I ran to celebrate with the fans, the manager, the players. It was brilliant because Liverpool were outstanding. When you score two goals at Anfield, it’s always a great feeling because it’s one of the best stadiums to play football.”
