Premier League referee appointments: Who will take charge on Matchweek 1

The Premier League referee appointments have been confirmed for Matchweek 1 of the 2022/23 season.

The top tier of English football will see major changes when it comes to match officials this season. That is because a number of high-profile officials have retired.

Mike Dean, Martin Atkinson, Jon Moss and Kevin Friend have all stepped away from Premier League duty. Mike Riley, meanwhile, has left his role as head of Premier League referees. Howard Webb is set to become his replacement.

That has ushered in a new era of officiating in the Premier League. Several referees with less experience of English top flight football will be filling the breach.

These include Australian Jarred Gillett. He became the first overseas referee to oversee a Premier League match last season.

On Monday, the official website of the Premier League confirmed the match officials for the opening weekend of action as follows:
