Ramos claims he did actually accept Madrid contract offer

Sergio Ramos has revealed that he actually did accept Real Madrid’s contract offer after it was confirmed his time with the club has come to an end.

The veteran defender’s departure from Real has surprised many fans over the last 24 hours with the majority always believing he’d end his playing days at the Bernabeu.

Alas, his current 16-year run with the Spanish giants is over, as he confirmed during a press conference earlier today.

Sergio Ramos – the end of an era

However, contrary to popular belief, Ramos stated that he did accept the proposal put forward to him – but there was an expiration date he wasn’t initially aware of.

“In the last months Real Madrid offered me an offer of 1 year with 10% less salary. The money was never the problem. I wanted 2 years, then I accepted the proposal, but the contract renewal offer had an expiration date, and I didn’t know about it”. Ramos reportedly revealed.

“I’ll come back here one day, I’m sure. I want to say a huge thanks to Real Madrid, I will always carry you in my heart”.

While the press conference made it seem as if this is an amicable end to an iconic spell in Madrid for Ramos, it also highlighted that there have been lingering issues regarding the way in which the situation has been handled.

At the age of 35, the defender could be talking about a potential return in some form of coaching capacity in the future.

Real Madrid will continue to move on with their rebuilding project whereas the future of Sergio Ramos remains unknown, though his next destination will undoubtedly be a hot topic of debate in the coming days.
