Rio Ferdinand believes Arsenal should favour keeping Joe Willock over a permanent sale to Newcastle United.
Willock, 21, made a loan move up to the Magpies at the end of the January transfer window. However, it’s only been in the last few games that we’ve really been able to see him shine.
From his work rate to his end product in front of goal, the youngster is starting to develop a real reputation for himself as one to watch in the Premier League.
Rio Ferdinand backs Willock to succeed
Right now, the Gunners probably wouldn’t have a consistent place for him in the first team. Despite that, the summer is right around the corner, and it appears as if Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta could do with shaking up the team a bit.
During a recent episode of his Vibe With FIVE podcast, the aforementioned Ferdinand had the following to say regarding Willock’s future.
“You know what, I like Joe Willock.
“He’s someone at Arsenal that I would have kept. He’s a good young player.
“If Arsenal don’t take him back and have him around that squad, I don’t know, man.
“I really like him and I like his personality. He’s not shy to come on the big stage and play and perform.
“And the last three goals he’s scored have been massive goals for Newcastle. It shows he’s got the temperament.”
While Ferdinand may be a fan, it all comes down to what sort of future Arteta sees for him at the Emirates.
Newcastle, on the other hand, will need to put in a fairly substantial offer to lure him up to Tyneside on a permanent basis – especially with Steve Bruce and Mike Ashley being at the helm.
For now, though, riding this wave of momentum even further can only lead to good things.
