Robbie Keane made a shock comment to a Manchester City legend before Tottenham ‘crumbled’ in a thrilling match

EXCLUSIVE: Robbie Keane realised the inevitable during a dramatic showdown between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.

During his time at the London club, the Irishman made many a happy memory, including winning the League Cup, and scoring an astonishing 122 goals. However, as well as the highs, there were certainly lows, with this specific match against ‘The Cityzens’ going down as an experience he’d rather forget.

Robbie Keane told Richard Dunne that Tottenham were going to lose

In February 2004, Tottenham Hotspur welcomed Manchester City to White Hart Lane for an epic FA Cup fourth-round replay. In an exhilarating encounter, Tottenham went 3-0 up, with Robbie Keane scoring one of the goals.

However, according to Richard Dunne, when the visitors began to fight back, the natural-born goal scorer told him what he feared was about to happen. And how right he was.

In an exclusive interview with Sporf, via Betinia, the former Manchester City captain explained: “I think not too long before we came back, I think they were 3-0 up against Manchester United, and United beat them 5-3, so they had this little thing at Tottenham, which is probably still there today, where that self-doubt gets into them. Robbie was obviously a highly intelligent player, and he could see things before they happened. I think we were chatting and he just goes, ‘You will win this’, because we’d got a goal or second goal back, and they started to panic a little bit at the back, and they just couldn’t seem to get out.

“We didn’t have much belief and much hope that we could get back into it, but we almost just found ourselves falling back into the game. I wouldn’t say we were incredible, and we steamrolled Tottenham, because we only had ten men, but we just managed to find a way to get back into the game. Eventually, it was Tottenham that crumbled. I think the fans were on their back, and everything was going against them. It’s a little bit of what Tottenham were like and probably still are today, where they fear the worst, and luckily, we were the ones who could take over.”

Richard Dunne explains why Micah Richards was ‘On a different planet’

While Dunne was on the opposing side to Keane that day in the English capital, the pair played alongside one another for the Irish national team.

And the striker isn’t the only talented footballer the former centre-back has had the opportunity to call a teammate.

The strong tackler developed a tight bond with Micah Richards, teaching the powerhouse the ropes of what it takes to make it in the Premier League.

During his interview with Sporf, Dunne revealed why Richards is so special.
