Clinton Morrison says fans forget how good Roy Keane was
In his excellent career, Clinton Morrison cemented his status as one of the best strikers in England’s top flight, frequently rendering goalkeepers helpless with his powerful shots.
With talent coursing through his veins, he received the opportunity to play for Ireland, where he met the great Roy Keane. During their time together, the former Manchester United star gave his teammate many words of advice, which Morrison admits had a massive impact on the way he performed on the pitch.
In an exclusive interview with Sporf, via Free Bets, he reminisced: “We had a brilliant relationship. I think I was the pest who always kept bugging him and asking him questions.
“I think when you go into an international squad, you try and speak to everyone, but he was the best player, he was a top player.
“He set an example in training. I used to sit next to him for breakfast, lunch and dinner, probably chewing his ear off. But we had a great relationship at Ireland. We got on so well.
“He helped me a lot when I was there, telling me to ‘play within the width of the penalty area, stop running into the channels because you’re not going to score goals there’. Roy was a big help with my career when I was with the national team.
“He was some player, people forget how good he was, but he set the standard really high at Ireland.”
Clinton Morrison and Robbie Keane both wanted Ronaldo’s shirt
Roy Keane wasn’t the only Keane that Morrison had a great relationship with, as the striker, who made a significant impact at Crystal Palace and Birmingham, also developed a close bond with Robbie Keane.
On possibly Morrison’s greatest night, he was named the Man of the Match in a massive collision against Brazil.
The South American side, featured the legendary Ronaldo. Therefore, it goes without saying that following the fixture, the Irishman had something he wanted to try and get from R9.
Now, Morrison has revealed what happened when Keane and he battled it out for Ronaldo’s shirt.
