Robin Van Persie is one of the greatest Premier League strikers of all time, and to honour his incredible legacy, we’re looking back at some of his best goals.
At the peak of his powers, the Netherlands international was simply unplayable. With lightning pace, thunderous power and an unrivalled eye for goal, defenders simply couldn’t handle him.
During spells at Arsenal and Manchester United, he dazzled English viewers, scoring some of the craziest finishes in recent memory. But which of his goals stand out from the pack?
5) Robin Van Persie vs Manchester City (2012/13)
When Van Persie moved to Manchester United, it rightfully created a huge buzz. The Old Trafford faithful were delighted that the talented forward had agreed a dael, knowing that their new signing had all the tools to make a real impact.
And on derby day, he delivered in abundance. With an exciting game balanced at 2-2, in the 90th minute, it looked like both teams were going to have to settle for a point. But RVP wasn’t having that. He stepped up to a free kick and curled it with his left foot past a helpless Joe Hart.
4) Robin Van Persie vs Everton (2011)
In a golden boot winning season, the Dutch star put the icing on the cake with an outrageous volley against ‘The Toffees’. With the game all square, Van Persie read an Alex Song pass to perfection and fired the ball into the back of the net to send his fans into complete and utter raptures.
3) Robin Van Persie vs Fulham (2006)
While Arsenal ultimately lost this game, their main man up top, will have still come away with fond memories.
From 25 yards away, the icon smashed home a beautiful free kick to add to his astonishing highlight reel.
2) Robin Van Persie vs Charlton (2004/05)
When Arsene Wenger signed the natural-born goal scorer from Feyenoord, nobody knew quite how good he’d become.
Despite starting the game alongside, Thierry Henry, he didn’t falter under the pressure. In the 68th minute, the ball floated across to the edge of the box where Van Persie was lying in wait.
He hammered it into the back of the net to show ‘The Gunners’ supporters that he meant business.
1) Robin Van Persie vs Aston Villa (2013)
With Sir Alex Ferguson closing in on yet another Premier League title, United needed to bag a win against Aston Villa. Therefore, as he often did, RVP rose to the occasion. To send his gaffer into retirement a happy man, he secured an epic hat-trick. But while the achievement in its own right is impressive, it’s the final goal that people always remember.
Wayne Rooney deliver a beautiful through ball from the halfway line, which was met by a thunderous volley from Van Persie. The genius beautifully directed it into the bottom corner to score the best goal of his career.
