Romelu Lukaku can still make an impact at Chelsea according to Glen Johnson

Glen Johnson is convinced that Romelu Lukaku, who’s currently playing on loan at Inter Milan, can still do a job for Chelsea.

When the towering Belgian made his return to Stamford Bridge in 2021, the fans were expecting big things. After all, the forward had looked unstoppable during his first stint in Italy, utilising his frightening strength and power to bag 64 goals in 95 appearances. But despite his best efforts, he just couldn’t find form.

The striker shared a somewhat tense relationship with manager, Thomas Tuchel, who he admitted he was ‘not happy’ playing under. Consequently, he found himself dropped from the squad and spiralling in form.

Ultimately, ESPN named him ‘the worst signing of the season’, and he headed back to Serie A.

Glen Johnson still belives in Romelu Lukaku

Throughout the campaign so far, the 29-year-old has shown glimmers of his brilliant best, scoring five goals in 19 appearances. However, as he only moved on loan, he’ll be heading back to London in no time.

But while this could present a daunting prospect for the player, England’s former number-one right-back is convinced that the giant can still cement an incredible legacy.

Speaking to Lord Ping, he said: “Romelu Lukaku will definitely be given a second chance at Chelsea. We saw how good he was at Man United and Everton. He knows the Chelsea system, and the club spent a lot of money on him. Goal-scoring strikers are really hard to find, and let’s face it – he is at Inter Milan because he wasn’t performing at Chelsea, but he has the potential.”

He continued: “The easy option is to give him a second chance. If he comes back into the fold scoring, you have a top striker coming back into the club. They will see how the rest of the season goes and make their decision.”
