Rugby league star hit with $5,000 fine for wrist tape message

Rugby League star Kane Evans has been handed a $5,000 fine for offensive messaging on his wrist tape.

The New Zealand Warriors star lined up for his side last Sunday in a collision with the Penrith Panthers, but in the end, he didn’t actually end up coming on the pitch – although that didn’t stop TV cameras from picking up on his wrist tape that had the words “fold some c***” spread across them.

“Good people do some silly things”

Some saw it as little more than a harmless joke whereas others felt as if it crossed a line. Once the fine had been handed down, Warriors head coach Nathan Brown gave his own thoughts on the matter and confirmed that the club wouldn’t be giving Evans a separate sanction themselves.

“We don’t need to sanction Kane, the NRL has already done that,” Brown said

“They have given him a $5,000 fine so it was an expensive piece of writing, I suppose you could say.

“If that is the worst thing Kane Evans does, well he has copped a kick up the backside and we will move on with it.

“Kane is a good lad who has only been with us short term. He is very popular amongst the boys and he is a terrific bloke.

“But good people do some silly things sometimes and on this occasion Kane has done something that as a club we feel is a little bit silly.”

The Panthers ran out 30-16 in this game to add insult to injury but this seems to be the news story that is grabbing everyone’s attention.

Evans will hope to avoid the spotlight this weekend when the Warriors return to action for an intriguing clash against South Sydney Rabbitohs.
