Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney to release ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ doc

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s recent takeover of Wrexham is due to be documented in a two-season access-all-areas documentary about the club.

Nick Grad, President of Original Programming at FX Entertainment confirmed the network had ordered the series which is said to hone in on Rob and Ryan’s ‘crash course in football club ownership’.

Grad said: “Rob McElhenney has been an all star on Team FX for years and now has partnered with the formidable Ryan Reynolds to bring glory to the ‘Red Dragons’ in the docuseries, Welcome to Wrexham.”

“Rob and Ryan will take fans inside the sport as never before, pairing their genuine love for the game with the welcome challenge of building on the heritage of this club.”

Unsurprisingly, McElhenney broke the news in typically sarcastic fashion, via a parody sketch featuring himself, Reynolds and a Welsh translator.

Both McElhenney and Reynolds will executive produce the series, alongside Nick Frenkel and John Henion. Boardwalk Pictures will produce.

UK and world broadcasters haven’t yet been announced, but are expected in due course.
