Sancho’s Man United number teased as shirt goes on sale early

A website has begun selling Manchester United shirts with Jadon Sancho’s name on the back – alongside the number seven.

For weeks now United fans have been anticipating some kind of official announcement regarding the signing of Sancho as the summer transfer window rolls on.

The expectation is that the Red Devils will sign him for around £70 million with the Englishman serving as their primary target alongside Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.

Which one will it be?

One of the big debates surrounding this topic has been what number Jadon Sancho will wear. The Dortmund star has been linked with the classic number seven shirt, but with Edinson Cavani currently occupying that space, number 16 has also been floated around as a possibility.

As it turns out, ProDirectSoccer.com is feeling pretty confident that Sancho will usurp Cavani and be given the nod to have “7” after all.

It may come across as fairly trivial to be debating topics such as this in the eyes of some, but in reality, these things matter for a club like Manchester United, where that number in particular has been steeped in history.

The club, of course, first needs to worry about actually getting the deal finalised and over the finish line, then the nitty gritty details can be ironed out.

Sancho is coming off the back of a disappointing end to Euro 2020 that saw him miss a penalty in England’s final shootout against Italy in the final. Still, United fans will be counting down the days until they see him make his first appearance at Old Trafford.

They’ll be hoping to see Sancho feature when Manchester United begin their new league campaign against Leeds on August 14.
