Sergey Kovalev says Jake Paul fight is unlikely

Sergey Kovalev, who had an incredibly decorated amateur career, is currently out in Dubai, UAE, watching the next generation battle it out for their share of $8.32 million at the IBA Men’s Elite World Championships.

Blessed with thunderous power, the Russian rendered many an opponent unconscious, en route to taking over the sport. However, it all could’ve been different had he stuck with his first love – ice hockey.

However, when his gear was stolen, and his parents couldn’t afford replacements, the athlete ended up boxing, where, ironically, he made enough money to buy as many ice hockey sticks as he could ever want.

Now, his worlds could be about to collide, with the superstar receiving a very interesting offer.

In an exclusive interview with Sporf, he enthused: “I didn’t have fights on the ice, but right now, in the US, some coaches invited me, saying, ‘Maybe you will start training our guys to box, because we have plans to make them tough guys’. I said, ‘Let’s think about this’. Right now, I’m going to go back home to visit my mother. Then, I’ll be back in the US, and we’ll start speaking about this – maybe doing some training with the ice hockey players.”

While the opportunity is tempting, in recent times, Kovalev has made no secret of his desire to set foot inside the ring with Jake Paul.

However, with the powerhouse now retired and with this new venture on the table, he’s given a realistic update on whether his bout with ‘The Problem Child’ will ever come to fruition.

Kovalev confessed: “I would fight with Jake, but it’s already too late. I’m finished.”
