Sergio Aguero aims funny dig at Cristiano Ronaldo after Norwich hat-trick

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo scored an imperious hat-trick in a 3-2 win over Norwich City on Saturday – but was still the subject of a sly dig from one of his club’s former rivals.

The Portuguese icon struck a trio of goals to down the Canaries, who will have left Old Trafford disappointed not to come away with anything.

Ronaldo put United ahead early in the first half. Anthony Elanga robbed Ben Gibson of the ball in his own area, before squaring it to the 37-year-old. He did the rest.

The forward then made it 2-0 on 32 minutes. United scored a rare goal from a corner, with Ronaldo powering Alex Telles‘s delivery into the back of the net.

But Dean Smith’s side roared back into life. Kieran Dowell headed Teemu Pukki’s cross over the line to make it 2-1 before half-time. And they were level on 52 minutes when Pukki broke clear and slotted the ball beyond David de Gea at his near post.

United, therefore, needed a hero, and Ronaldo stepped up. He ended an 18-month drought from free-kicks to give the hosts the lead once again. Tim Krul got a hand to his powerful effort, but could only divert it into the back of the net via the post.

Cristiano Ronaldo delivers again

Ronaldo’s hat-trick takes him to 15 Premier League goals this season from 26 appearances.

In a campaign where United players have been routinely criticised, the Portuguese forward hasn’t quite been at his dominating best all the time. But, at 37, he is still able to produce the old magic and do what he does best – change games.

Ronaldo now has two consecutive Premier League hat-tricks at Old Trafford, having scored three goals in a 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur last month. He missed the intervening 1-1 draw with Leicester City through injury.

Taking to Instagram after the game, Ronaldo wrote: “Very happy with this win and for getting us back on track in the Premier League.

“Like I said before, individual achievements are only worth it when they help us reach our goals as a team, and the 60th hat-trick in my career is so much more important because it brought us the three points.

“Well done lads, tremendous effort from everyone. We’re not giving up, we’re fighting until the end!”

Sergio Aguero aims dig at Cristiano Ronaldo with Messi comparison

Over the last decade, the heated debate among football fans is who is better – Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi? Whenever either player has a top performance, that debate seems to open up once again.

As a legend of United’s rivals, Manchester City, and a former international team-mate of Messi, it’s not hard to determine which side Sergio Aguero is on – and he proved that with a light-hearted dig at Cristiano Ronaldo following his hat-trick.

Red Devils starlet Alejandro Garnacho took to Instagram after United’s win to write, in reference to Ronaldo: “Greatest of all times…”

It didn’t take long for Aguero to get his point of view across. He replied: “Because you still haven’t played with Lionel Messi yet”, with a cool eyes emoji.

Spain-born Garnacho recently announced his intention to play for Argentina, and he was called up to the senior squad for the first time this year. That experience with Messi will no doubt soon come – and then he can give us his overall verdict.
