Nice have been docked two points (one suspended) and must replay their Ligue 1 match with Marseille after crowd trouble and a brawl forced the original game between the two sides to be abandoned.
The fixture, which took place on August 22 at Allianz Riviera, was stopped on 75 minutes after Nice fans invaded the pitch.
Nice have also been handed a three-game spectator ban, with all of those games set to be played at a neutral location yet to be determined.
Marseille’s Dimitri Payet and Alvaro Gonzalez have also been punished for their parts in the incident.
Defender Gonzalez has been given a two-match ban, with Payet getting a suspended one-match ban.
Marseille physio Pablo Fernandez, meanwhile, has been handed a nine-month touchline suspension for his part in the brawl.
How did the brawl start and what incidents occurred?
The incident took place after Payet was struck in a back by a bottle which was thrown by a Nice spectator.
The former West Ham midfielder then picked up one of the bottles which littered the edge of the playing area and threw it back into the stands. Chaos then ensued.
A number of Nice fans then stormed the pitch and approached the Marseille players. Stewards struggled to hold them back as they jumped over the barricades.
What occurred next was a huge brawl featuring players and officials of both teams, and the spectators.
Marseille boss Jorge Sampaoli even got involved, and had to be dragged away by his coaching staff as the players neared the tunnel area.
The match was stopped, and both teams returned to their dressing rooms. When it was announced that the match would restart, Nice players came back out onto the pitch – but their opponents didn’t.
French authorities arrested one man, and Ligue 1’s governing body summoned both clubs to a disciplinary commission the following Wednesday.
