Sevilla fans have already turned on Man United loanee Anthony Martial

Sevilla fans have already turned on Manchester United loanee Anthony Martial, who is being whistled by fans of the La Liga early on his stint there.

The Frenchman moved to Spain in January 2022 and has since scored one goal in eight games.

Martial found himself in a poor run of form under Ralf Rangnick and formerly Ole Gunnar Solksjaer. As a result, he moved to La Liga to reinvigorate his career.

Sevilla have impressed for much of the season. They made good use of the poor form of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in the early half of the season by climbing up the table.

Both sides have started catching up more recently. However, the Andalusian side remain in second place in the league behind Real Madrid.

Why has Anthony Martial been whistled by Sevilla fans?

Martial, who is yet to register a goal or complete a full 90 minutes in La Liga, was jeered off by Sevilla fans in his last outing.

The Frenchman played 59 minutes in his side’s 0-0 draw with Real Sociedad on Sunday afternoon.

As SPORT reports, via Manchester Evening News, Sevilla fans whistled as Youssef En-Nesyri came on to replace Martial. Some fans applauded the United loanee, but the majority whistled. Supporters are underwhelmed by the Frenchman’s performances in their shirt.

When he came into the squad, the Sevillistas thought he would help them tighten the gap with Real Madrid at the top of the table. However, with four draws in the last five league games, the gap between Sevilla and Barcelona is closing.

The Catalan side will have the chance to overtake their league rivals at the beginning of April as the two sides face off.

Anthony Martial’s season so far

This season, Anthony Martial featured for United until Matchday 23 of the Premier League before his loan move to Sevilla.

However, the Frenchman only made eight league appearances in that time. Thanks to injury troubles and a run of poor form, Martial couldn’t break through into the first team regularly.

In his eight Premier League appearances this season, he registered just one goal. In total, so far this season, he has made 19 appearances. Across those 19 games, he has played 825 minutes. In those 825 minutes, Martial has registered only two goals and one assist.

Sevilla have nine games remaining in their season, having been knocked out of the Europa League by West Ham and the Copa del Rey by city rivals Real Betis.

Sevilla still have to face Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. If Martial’s displays don’t improve, he will lose his place in a second team this season.
