Tottenham Hotspur fans sent a pretty clear message to Harry Kane in the final seconds of their win over Manchester City last night.
In what proved to be one of the biggest surprises of the opening Premier League weekend, Tottenham beat reigning champions City 1-0 thanks to a second-half strike from Son Heung-min. The South Korean forward bent the ball into the bottom corner of the net and did so in a game that saw Spurs, essentially, control City with the kind of defensive display that would have you believe they were the ones defending the title.
Will he stay or will he go?
Still, while there were plenty of performances that stood out amongst the rest, one man was capturing the attention of the masses before the game had kicked off – and he wasn’t even on the pitch.
Harry Kane recently returned to training in North London amidst rumours that suggested he could be on his way to Manchester City. With the summer transfer window still being open for a few more weeks there’s plenty of time left for Pep Guardiola to make his move, and it appears as if Nuno Espirito Santo didn’t think it’d be a great idea to include the Englishman in the first team squad.
With Tottenham being just moments away from securing the win, the flag-waving fans in attendance made a real statement by asking Kane a very simple question.
“Are you watching, are you watching, are you watching Harry Kane? Are you watching Harry Kane!”
The smart money suggests that he was, in fact, watching from afar, weighing up his options with regards to where his future lies in the beautiful game.
The next step for Tottenham Hotspur will be to prepare for a winnable game against Nuno’s former side Wolverhampton Wanderers this Sunday.
