Spurs fans turn on Igor Tudor as club wishes Antonin Kinsky a happy birthday

Tottenham Hotspur fans slammed manager Igor Tudor after the club posted celebrating the birthday of their goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, who was subbed after 16 minutes during their Champions League loss against Atletico Madrid.

Sure, it’s nice to wish people a happy birthday, but perhaps they needed to read the room a bit.

Tottenham’s performance was the worst of a bad night for Premier League teams

Spurs were just one bad result on a bad week for English teams on the continent.

Only Aston Villa managed a win across all three UEFA competitions, with losses for Spurs, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City – who were humbled away at Real Madrid

Nottingham Forest drew, as did Arsenal and Newcastle.

It wasn’t exactly a classic week for the so-called ‘best league in the world’.

But it was probably the worst week of Antonin Kinsky’s career.

Gifted a start by manager Igor Tudor, the Czech goalkeeper made two significant errors and gave away two easy goals to a rampant Atleti side who were 4-0 up within the first half.

He was then pulled off the pitch for regular keeper Vicario after just 16 minutes, which is the ultimate insult for a goalie.

Things didn’t get much better, as they were eventually beaten 5-2.

Kinsky later broke his silence on the incident, sharing an Instagram story that said: “Thanks for messages. From dream to nightmare to dream again.”

The decision to sub him was also slammed, with Joe Hart telling the TNT Sports audience: “To get to this level, signed by Spurs, one mistake does not alter you.

“That is a technical error, but what precedes that… was it the right decision? Maybe it was. But what I saw after…

“I hate being reactive because I like to know all the facts. But the fact he has taken him off in that situation having played him… he is young, 22, he is not a man, he has done nothing to try and hurt Spurs.

“[He had] a couple of bad moments, but to rip him off in this situation and not even acknowledge the guy?

“Every single one of Tottenham’s players who are feeling the pain don’t know what to do. How is that good for him?”

Tottenham tried to wish him a happy birthday – but it turned ugly

Spurs shared a picture today [March 13] wishing their beleaguered keeper a happy birthday, writing: “Best wishes on your birthday Toni.”

Fans were quick to rally around him – although manager Igor Tudor came in for some stick – with one person writing: “Happy birthday my son

“Don’t let what Igor Tudor did to you hinder your footballing career

“Everyone was slipping on that pitch

“You gained the support of the fans while Tudor lost the respect of the Spurs faithful

“Chin up and come back stronger.”

Another said: “Keep up the hard work man.

“I still believe you will be our number 1 through becoming a top keeper.

“You’ve got all the attributes to do it.

“Still believe in you man.”

A third wrote: “Best wishes Toni, one mistake doesn’t define you as a person or goalkeeper, treat the Igor snub with the contempt it deserves, it says more about him that it does of you.”

Spurs have got it all to do this season, with their form in the gutter, their Champions League all but over, and relegation from the Premier League a real possibility.

Can they turn it around?
