Arsenal have unveiled their Adidas 2023/24 home kit that they will wear next season, bearing subtle tributes to a legendary Gunners squad.
2023/24 will mark 20 years since Arsene Wenger guided the likes of Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry, and Dennis Bergkamp to an incredible Premier League title. Arsenal went undefeated during the whole 2003/04 league campaign, earning the moniker “Invincibles”.
They even received a golden Premier League trophy in light of their unbelievable achievement.
Sadly, though, no Arsenal side has yet replicated this level of success. In fact, 2003/04 remains Arsenal’s most recent league title. They have come close to lifting the trophy once more; for example, the Gunners finished runner-up in 2004/05 and 2015/16.
But the 2022/23 campaign has been a particularly difficult one to stomach. Mikel Arteta’s squad led the division for the majority of the season, only to see Manchester City overtake them and win.
Maybe this new kit, with its references to past greatness, can be the catalyst to finally ending that two-decade championship drought.
Arsenal 2023/24 home kit: the Invincibles details
Firstly, Adidas have opted to ditch the retro-style collar that highlighted the current season’s strip. Instead, the German marque have given the shirt a simple round-neck collar with white trim. This in itself bears similarity to the 2003/04 strip.
Arsenal’s famous red shirt with white sleeves takes centre stage once more, with a red and gold hem on the end of the light sleeves.
The base of the shirt sees a faint lightning bolt pattern travel vertically down the red element of the top. Could these be a great reference to their stunning 1994/95 kits? Possibly, but they’re a nice touch either way.
Meanwhile, the rest of the strip sees the typical white shorts and socks go alongside the red shirt. The socks do have a thick, red lightning bolt on the side, though, which is a cool touch.
So, what about the Invincibles references?
This Arsenal 2023/24 home kit has made some understated adjustments to commemorate the team. The clearest example is seen in the colouring of the shirt details. Arsenal’s badge and the Adidas logo on either side of the chest are now in gold – a subtle nod to the gold trophy the Invincibles received.
In contrast, the Fly Emirates sponsorship across the midriff of the jersey retains its white text colour.
Adidas continue the gold theme across the kit via their typical three-stripe branding. The maker’s bands on the shoulders and down the shorts are in this glorious colour – oozing quality.
Additionally, on the authentic jersey, there is another clear reference to 2003/04. In white taping down the side of the shirt, there are the 26 wins and 12 draws from the Invincibles’ league campaign represented in the form of W’s and D’s.
When will this kit make its debut?
The Arsenal Women’s team will be the first Gunners side to sport the 2023/24 home kit. They will wear it on Saturday during their WSL season finale against Aston Villa.
Meanwhile, the Men’s side will also debut the strip against a midlands side. Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and others will don their fresh kit against Wolves on Sunday – their last match of 2022/23.
