Tottenham target Julian Nagelsmann is close to being appointed as the new Bayern Munich manager, according to reports.
German publication kicker has reported that Nagelsmann has asked his current club RB Leipzig to terminate his contract early.
They also say that RB Leipzig are asking for €25 million in compensation from Bayern, with Nagelsmann their preferred target to replace Hansi Flick.
The news comes after Flick asked the Bayern hierarchy to terminate his contract with the German champions at the end of the season.
However, in a statement Bayern said they ‘disapprove[d]’ of Flick’s request, throwing his future in more doubt.
Nagelsmann is into his second season with Leipzig, and looks set to again guide them to Champions League qualification this term.
Leipzig also still have an outside chance of winning the Bundesliga title. They sit seven points behind Bayern with nine points available.
Nagelsmann reportedly on Spurs shortlist
The reported news could come as a blow to Tottenham, who have been linked with the 33-year-old following the departure of Jose Mourinho earlier in the month.
He was available at odds of 9/4 with some bookmakers last week to take the job at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Nagelsmann has been widely praised for his attractive style of play at Leipzig and his tactical ability.
He began his managerial career with Hoffenheim at the age of 28 in 2016, and successfully kept them in the Bundesliga.
He then guided the club to Champions League qualification the following season.
Nagelsmann was then appointed as Leipzig manager in the summer of 2019. He took them to the semi-finals of the Champions League, where they lost to Paris Saint-Germain on aggregate.
Spurs, meanwhile, sit seventh in the Premier League. They are five points off the qualification spots for Europe’s premier competition.
They were defeated 1-0 in the Carabao Cup final by Manchester City on Sunday.
