Triple H reportedly made major change to Becky Lynch plans for SummerSlam

WWE star Becky Lynch cemented a face turn during SummerSlam this weekend – but things could have turned out much differently, according to reports.

’Big Time Becks’ opened the show, taking on Bianca Belair for the Raw Women’s Championship. It was an excellent match, with both women trading near falls.

Belair eventually picked up the win, hitting a KOD on Lynch to retain her title. But that wasn’t to be the last of the drama.

Following her defeat, Lynch offered to shake Belair’s hand. ’The EST’ accepted, ending a feud that dates back to last year’s SummerSlam, when a returning Lynch defeated her rival in just 26 seconds to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Then, after 13 months out injured, Bayley returned to confront Belair. But she was not alone. The returning Dakota Kai – who was released by WWE in April – and Io Shirai – now stylised as Iyo Sky – joined her.

The four women then had a face-off inside the ring, before Lynch sided with Belair, completing her face turn.

Triple H reportedly adjusted SummerSlam plans for Becky Lynch

Since SummerSlam concluded, it has been reported that earlier plans for Becky Lynch would not have seen her turn into a face.

Wade Keller of PWTorch has claimed that Vince McMahon wanted ’Big Time Becks’ to remain as a heel for the time being. How that would have changed plans for her going forward is unknown. Keller also claims that Triple H went in a different direction to McMahon’s call, in his new role as head of WWE creative.

Keller explained (quotes via WrestlingNews): ”I can now confirm, Becky was not going to turn if Vince McMahon was still in control. That was a Paul Levesque call. I just got confirmation on that.

”She would have been a heel, as we’re talking right now, if McMahon was still running things. So, one big change early on there.”

If Lynch had remained as a heel, and feuds with Asuka and Belair now over, it may have left WWE with a few headaches over which direction to take her on next. Bayley’s return may not even have happened how it did at SummerSlam.

Fightful Select reports, meanwhile, that McMahon rejected plans for Bayley’s stable to contain Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky back in April. Kai was then released from WWE, with Triple H clearly playing a pivotal role in bringing her back to the company.
