Tyler Owens Delivered The Best Play Of The NFL Season In Its Very First Week

Whatever happens during the second long weekend of the burgeoning 2026 NFL season, unless there is an actual, honest-to-goodness defiance of the physical limits of the human body, we are all still collectively going to be rewatching Tyler Owens absolutely wrecking the Philadelphia Eagles special teams blocking unit.

Poor, poor Britain Covey.

There has to be something uniquely haunting about witnessing a human being stampeding towards you like a spooked rodeo bull, fresh from being restrained and starved inside its bucking chute for hours on end. There go the two jammers – a combined 400lb worth of Jonathon Jones and Darius Cooper – ejected from influence by the Washington Commanders safety.

Britain Covey must face terror in the eye. Jones and Cooper are willing the breath back into their lungs, supine on the turf of Lincoln Financial Field, squinting through their helmets at the Pennsylvanian sky, wondering what the hell just happened.

Sometimes the only way to stop a runaway freight train is to crash another into one into it. Only Britain Covey, standing at 5’8 and weighing around 40 bills less than Tyler Owens, is no freight train.

Covey give it the old “Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose” and the Eagle lets fly. Only the eagle flies directly into the path of an apex predator.

Touchdowns come and go. Hail Mary passes drop jaws. Bone rattling tackles may even shake us as spectators to our very core. But Tyler Owens marauding through the Philadelphia Eagles and then spiking Britain Covey like he owed him money? We are replaying that on an almost hourly basis (nothing personal, Britain).

We are setting it to music. We are locking in on every pulsating, thundering step the former Texas Longhorn bludgeons across the Linc’s turf, as we prepare for a rough day at work or struggle to make our way through the gym doors for an early morning workout.

There will be bombastic plays aplenty between this coming weekend and the Super Bowl in February. It will take a herculean effort to conjure something more impressive than what Tyler Owens delivered against the Eagles in 2026’s opening week.
