Murat Gassiev annihilated Kubrat Pulev with a brutal punch

The clash between two heavyweight fan favourites, Kubrat Pulev and Murat Gassiev, produced entertainment in abundance.

During his run at cruiserweight, in which he won two world titles, the boxing community believed ‘Iron’ was going to be something special. Alas, a tough loss to Oleksandr Usyk followed by a spell of inactivity left the world wondering whether he’d ever reach his optimum potential. But now, the fans are well and truly back on the Gassiev hype train, with the powerhouse reminding everyone of exactly what he’s capable of.

After a tough opening round, the heavy hitter began to find a home for his body shots, slowly but surely, wearing down his opponent, who struggled to deal with the firepower coming in his direction.

Then, in the sixth round, the 32-year-old detonated a bomb that sent Pulev hurtling towards the canvas. Despite his best efforts, the Bulgarian simply couldn’t continue.

Now, with a belt back around his waist, the world is the now two-weight champion’s oyster. And with IBA promoter, Al Siesta, claiming before the fight that a Gassiev win could unlock an Usyk rematch, there’s now every chance the old rivals could reignite their feud.
