What a furious Erik ten Hag told Man United squad after Brentford loss

In a fit of rage following the club’s embarrassing 4-0 defeat against Brentford, Erik ten Hag nailed the Man United players with some home truths.

Upon the Dutchman’s arrival at Old Trafford, it looked like the 52-year-old could have the potential to turn everything around quickly. After a disappointing 2021/22 season, United flew out to Australia and Thailand for their yearly pre-season tour. And those games couldn’t have gone much better.

The Manchester side went unbeaten in four games, including a 4-0 victory over rivals Liverpool. However, their summer of romance has come to a crashing halt. The first fixture of the campaign ended in a 2-1 loss to Brighton, and the club’s latest defeat has left fans questioning the point of football.

In reaction to the Brentford result, Ten Hag hit the roof. And according to esteemed journalist Kaveh Solhekol, the manager gave his players a brutal punishment during a hastily scheduled day of training after the defeat.

The Sky Sports reporter claimed: “Erik ten Hag wanted to make Manchester United players run 13.8 kilometres (8.5 miles) during their exercises in their extra training session today. Brentford players ran 13.8 kilometres more than them yesterday. Distance covered yesterday: Brentford 109.4km United 95.6km.”

However, this wasn’t the only consequence for their poor performance. In addition to the workout that, according to a source via the Manchester Evening News, left the players “in ruins”, the gaffer also embodied Sir Alex Ferguson with some brutal ‘hairdryer’ treatment.

Erik ten Hag roasts the Man United squad

On Sunday, the manager held a fiery meeting at Carrington. According to The Sun, he told the players to stop feeling sorry for themselves and to start showing some grit and determination.

He also called the first half display against Brentford an “embarrassment”. Reports from The Athletic also suggesting that United’s staff were embarrassed about the side’s running statistics during the game.

In addition, Ten Hag told the squad that if they don’t change, the hole they’ve dug themselves will only deepen. Therefore, it would be wise to start working harder on the pitch.

Consequently, Man United fans will hope that this speech convinces United players to show more determination on the pitch. In turn, this could lead to better performances when it matters most.
