EXCLUSIVE: Alan Shearer has undeniably cemented his place as one of the greatest strikers in English history, scoring 30 goals for his beloved country.
And now, one of his former international teammates has opened up about what it was truly like to play alongside the gifted finisher.
Teddy Sheringham loved playing with Alan Shearer
As far as strike partnerships go, Alan Shearer and Teddy Sheringham were up there with the best of them, with the pair of icons complimenting each other beautifully to strike terror into the hearts of their opponents.
With the Geordie blessed with an unrivalled eye for goal, and Sheringham renowned for his ferocious strength and ability to find spaces and create play, the duo became almost unstoppable, with fans referring to them as ‘SAS’.
Having enjoyed so many happy memories with Shearer, the Champions League winner has opened up about what his experience with the gifted player was actually like, and also revealed that they recently shared a lovely reunion.
In an exclusive interview with Sporf, via Free Bets, Sheringham reminisced: “It was great. We didn’t really need to work at our relationship and partnership, we stayed out of each other’s way, but worked in unison. Funnily enough, we did a Q and A recently, for the first time ever, and it was really fun reliving those moments and talking about them.
“You don’t really get to sit down with your old football mates and have that unless you’re really close with one of them maybe. I have seen Alan a few times over the years in Portugal, but you don’t really sit down and reminisce, so it was lovely to do that with an ex-player.”
Teddy Sheringham reveals the one match he loves watching back… ‘People still come up to me today’
In their fantastic international careers, the footballing legends shared many an epic game together.
With the athletes working together to hit the back of the net on so many occasions, it would be understandable if Sheringham couldn’t pick out a key match that was his favourite.
However, there’s still one game he loves to watch back, with people still coming up to talk to him about it to this very day.
