Teddy Sheringham can’t get enough of watching England vs The Netherlands at Euro 96

At the peak of his powers, Teddy Sheringham was a truly tremendous talent, with the ability to create and score goals in equal measure. With sublime vision, imposing physical strength, and an unrivalled eye for goal, the forward cemented his place as one of the greatest players in Manchester United history, conquering not just the Premier League, but the Champions League as well, hitting the back of the net and providing an assist during his side’s greatest night against Bayern Munich.

But he didn’t just excel at club level, but on the international scene as well, putting in a plethora of tremendous performances for England.

Alongside Alan Shearer, the icon was deadly up top, with the pair showcasing their breathtaking skills during an awe-inspiring showing against the Netherlands in a group-stage match at Euro 96.

The pair worked beautifully together, en route to securing a 4-1 victory for their country that Sheringham, and indeed the entire nation, still remembers fondly to this day.

In an exclusive interview with Sporf, via Free Bets, the gifted athlete, exclaimed: “A lot of the time when you look back at your football career, you might watch Match of the Day and think, ‘I played really well in this game, can’t wait to see it on the telly later’. Then, you watch it, and you go, ‘I didn’t play as good as I thought’.

“You do a lot of running about on a football pitch, you make angles for someone, you do a lot of runs, and you don’t get the ball, but you’re doing something for the team; you might do a bit of tackling back and it’s not really noticed. But when I watched the Holland game, back when we had Covid and they were showing all the games again, I was like, ‘Watch this one, I played quite well’. And I actually did play quite well.

“It was quite nice to see that me and the team played well. It’s one of those performances that people come up to me still now and tell me that it’s one of the ‘Best England tournament performances’ they’ve ever seen. It was great to be a part of it.”
