EA’s annual ‘FUT Birthday’ promo is edging ever nearer.
A loading screen released to players on Tuesday evening revealed that the new promo was set to drop on FIFA 21 on Friday March 26.
On FIFA 20, we saw a range of players receive weak foot or skill move upgrades as part of the birthday celebrations, as well as position changes in some cases.
What are we likely to see this year? We’ve taken a look below at five players that could receive an upgrade during the promo:
Lionel Messi (Barcelona)

Lionel Messi fans have had to be patient in the last month, with the Argentinian missing out on Team of the Week despite several impressive performances for Barcelona.
Messi hasn’t featured in a promo since being chosen as the TOTY 12th Man back in January – although he was named as LaLiga Player of the Month for February.
Is a FUT Birthday card therefore on the way?
Kyle Walker (Manchester City)

Ultimate Team users have been keen for EA to give Kyle Walker a goalkeeper card since the beginning of FIFA 21.
Walker played as an goalkeeper for Manchester City in a Champions League tie against Atalanta last season after Claudio Bravo was sent off.
It may only have been a six-minute cameo, but the sheer sight of the 30-year-old playing in goal – as well as saving a free kick – means it hasn’t been forgotten.
However, we are yet to see the card be released into the game.
With last year’s FUT Birthday promotion giving Burnley ‘keeper Nick Pope five star skills, are we potentially going to see a position change for Walker?
Ferland Mendy (Real Madrid)

One of the most popular players in both FIFA 20 and 21 Ultimate Team, Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy is yet to receive an upgrade on the current iteration.
With the French defender a permanent fixture in a fair proportion of Weekend League teams, it would be no surprise if his card stats were to be boosted at this stage in the game cycle.
Rodrigo Moreno (Leeds United)

Leeds forward Rodrigo received a Ones To Watch card in September which has yet to be upgraded.
Injuries have dented his playing time for Marcelo Bielsa’s side in recent months.
However, the Spanish international is another commonly-used player on Ultimate Team, and he received a boost as part of last year’s FUT Birthday promotion.
Simon Kjaer (AC Milan)

Concluding this list, we have AC Milan defender Simon Kjaer.
The Danish international has put in some solid performances for the Italian side this year, in his first full season with the club. They currently sit in second place in Serie A.
Kjaer’s birthday (March 26) also falls on the same day as the release of the new promo. Will EA mark the occasion with a FUT Birthday card?
